Project Summary:

Although there is evidence indicating that phosphorus deficiency (P) reduces the nodulation rate and nitrogen fixation in different legumes; there is little information about how this nutritional condition affects the molecular dialog between both partners. In this project, we are trying to identify the genetic components that are affected by P deficiency and leading to a poor nodulation. To answer this question, we are analyzing the global transcriptional responses of common bean interacting with rhizobia under low phosphate conditions. We are collecting rot material at early stages of this symbiosis, for instances 6, 12 and 24 hours post rhizobia inoculation. With this transcriptional data, we will identify the symbiotic expression modules that might be affected by low phosphate conditions.
